One of the most powerful things I learned in my early days as an InfusionSoft user was the trackable link.
If you’re not using this, you really ought to be using it in EVERY email you send out. In our office it’s a rule. Send out an email, better have a link to prompt action and it better be trackable. It’s how you measure the effectiveness of your communications.
The other day as we released our 100% personalized direct mail for InfusionSoft service, I got to thinking…It would be awesome if I could have a trackable link in direct mail.
It would be ideal if the recipient of the direct mail piece didn’t have to do anything too special for me to know that my CTA was interesting enough to them that they would follow my link.
So I sat down with one of our developers and we talked about how this might be possible. What we ended up with is a trackable QR code that is as unique as the trackable link in my emails.
Imagine being able to know the moment a specific direct mail recipient showed enough interest to follow a link in a direct mail piece! Imagine attaching a follow up sequence with prompts to a sales force to make a call to the prospect. Or a txt msg to the recipient’s cell phone. Or maybe just an email and a tag that encouraged the prospect or returning customer down the sales path.
Well, I made it a top priority and I’m excited to announce that it’s live in 2011! Let me show you how simple it can be to create direct mail trackable links…
I’m going to modify a card I already created, and am using as part of a follow up sequence. This card is called Key to Success, it’s a huge door in France, my wife took this picture and that’s my father in law’s hand as he’s putting the key in the lock.
I imagine, that if you look through your photography you have some great pictures that can tie in your personality to a message that will resonate with your market, but I digress.
So, to add the trackable link, I simply click the Add a QR Code button, modify my text so that the placeholder QR code that appeared here isn’t overlapping my text. If I had a merge field that would modify the length of these lines of text here, I’d want to keep that in mind, now I select a follow up sequence, we pull all your sequences into this drop down from your infusionsoft app by the way, then enter the destination URL and we’re good to go!
I’ve added a trackable link to this card. Now what’s really great is if I’m in a real rush, I can create this card, add my trackable link, select an empty follow up sequence and push this card live in my infusionsoft app. During the couple days it takes for the card to travel to the recipient, I can finish my follow up sequence, swap out the follow up sequence, modify the destination URL, etc. Because the trackable link is connected to the recipient’s contact record and this card, I can change quite a bit after I’ve mailed. That a huge deal for those who like me like to act with speed, and maintain flexibility to adjust a campaign on the fly for optimized results.
